I would like to say that the idea for this photo came from watching one of my favorite Brittany Murphy movies called "Uptown Girls."

I was so sad when I heard that she died. She was so young and had plans of maybe having a baby in 2010. she was a carefree, beautiful, girl who must have spread sunshine wherever she went. Rest in peace Brittany..we will all miss you.

the actress, brittany murphy, died the other day. she was 32.

it truly affected me.

i always wondered if she had an eating disorder. i am pretty sure she did...
yet she was so high functioning.

that was me from age 22 - 32.

did i give in fully to anorexia and bulimia as identity during those years? no. i maintained a semi-normal weight most of the time. i wasn't making a career out of my ED like i did between 17-22 but i was probably sicker then than i was when i was 19 and 88 pounds.

in my twenties, i was evolved in a lot of ways except for the one that would sustain those mental, emotional and spiritual strides. i was very unhealthy.

people can be at death's door and still be functioning... happy, even. (at least, in parts of themselves).

i feel sad for brittany murphy. i feel that she was very a very talented, functioning, bright, creative woman.

none of those things mattered when her heart gave out, however.

she was sick.

do i know for sure if she had an eating disorder? no. but my gut tells me that she did and that she was a lot like i was before i finally gave up and broke free.

ironically, i finally let go at 32.
i felt set free at 33.
and here i am at 34 in a whole new chapter of my life... solid and free all at once.

this is the first winter i haven't completely starved myself.
have i lost weight? yeah. i have... but i am aware of my triggers and i am committed to doing what is best for me.

i lived a long time in half-life.
i no longer do this and i will no longer sacrifice any part of myself if it jeopardizes my recovery.
I am not naive.
i have been thinking about this a lot the last few days.

i have known myself for a pretty long time now - but i am finally living the reality of putting my well being first...
no matter what.

i love life and i want to embrace it fully in all ways... not just in bits like i used to.
(even if those bits were 100 per cent passionate parts. fragments do not work in my book anymore).

RIP brittany murphy.
you were a talented actress and i hope that you truly were able to feel your smile some of the time that you were amongst the living.
i so understand being everyone's sunshine.

being your own sunshine is even more powerful, though. i know it because i live it. and i truly love myself - even if i can't be everybody's everything. i am my own everything and that is healthy.

i hope you find that wherever you are...
